Chrysler vs Ford
The competition between Ford and Chrysler to win America’s heart has not been a secret. For years, the two have battled, trying to bring the latest and greatest in automotive technology to America’s fingertips, hoping to win loyalty and love. Your Virginia Chrysler Dealer is happy to bring to the public eye what we’ve known all along…..Chrysler is the clear winner…… There simply is no competition.
Ford has been a strong competitor, holding America captive as the American-born favorite; however, things have been steadily changing. For some of you, this won’t come as a big surprise: Consumer Reports 2011 Annual Car Reliability survey recently revealed that Chrysler has jumped ahead of Ford.
Ford’s three newest models, the Explorer, Fiesta, and Focus, all may be doing more harm than good. All three models had below-average reliability in their first year, making Ford sink from 10th to 20thon the reliability scale of 28 major automotive companies. That’s the biggest drop for any major automotive company in the 2011 Consumer Report.
In contrast, Chrysler’s Jeep brand has raised seven spots up to #13, making it the most reliable domestic brand. Consumer Reports, the magazine that ranks everything from coffee grinders to cars, says the Chrysler 200, Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee are leading the way.
David Champion, senior director for the magazine’s Automotive Test Center, singled out Doug Betts at the Automotive Press Association luncheon Tuesday, for his efforts in improving Chrysler quality. Betts became Chrysler’s quality vice president in 2009, when Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep rankings were in both Consumer Reports’ and J.D. Power’s basement. Last September, Betts was named quality chief for Fiat.
Why such a change? Ford’s falling may be attributed to trouble with new technology: the new MyFord Touch infotainment system, as well as the new automated-manual transmission seem to be two issues. Not all of Ford’s models brought home poor report cards, though; the new Ford Fusion Hybrid brought home a gold star.
Chrysler, however, seemed to bring home A+ marks with its new models, including the Chrysler 200 (formerly Sebring), the Dodge Durango, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The newest model, the 300, is too new for Consumer Reports to have sufficient data, and therefore was not included.
