The 2013 RAM 1500 has earned its Bragging Rights

by mbethard

2013 Ram 1500 Consumer Guide Publisher Tom Appel said, “The Chrysler Group turnaround has been a treat to watch. In a few short years the company has made revolutionary gains in terms of drivetrain sophistication and materials, and assembly quality. Chrysler really feels like an all new entity.”

One of the ‘big guns’ contributing to that turnaround is the all new 2013 Ram 1500. The Ram Truck, always a leader in its class, is stepping even further ahead with its 2013 model, being recognized in every category, again and again. Let’s take a look at just a handful of the awards its received to date:

Texas Truck Award

The Texas Auto Writers Association awarded the 2013 Ram 1500 with three awards last year at its annual Texas Truck Rodeo. For the second out of the past three years, Ram brought home the coveted Truck of Texas Award with the 2013 Ram 1500 earning it this time around. The 2011 Ram Laramie Longhorn earned the 2011 Truck of Texas honor. The other two awards honored were Full-size pickup truck and Luxury pickup truck.

“Our members overwhelmingly chose the 2013 Ram 1500 as the Truck of Texas and the truck for Texans. The new Ram 1500 is amazing,” said TAWA President Michael Herzing. “The new technologies in this truck are true game changers and raise the bar for the competition. You’ve got to love how tough, capable, comfortable, and fuel-efficient this new truck is, especially for Texans who frequently drive long distances.

“Until we drove it, we couldn’t believe a truck this nice and capable could achieve 25 miles to a gallon like the Ram does. It blew our members away.” 2013 Ram 1500

Urban Truck of the Year

‘Definitely stylish, but practical. Quiet as a luxury car. Capability – it’s in there!’ This is how Decisive Magazine describes the 2013 Ram 1500. With a menu of attributes like these, Decisive Magazine found its clear choice for 2013 “Urban Truck of the Year” award.

Automakers brought their best cars and trucks to the challenge, but when the dust finally settled … the award-winning 2013 Ram 1500 had chalked up one more notch in its championship season.

Reflecting on the judges’ decision, Randi Payton, founder of the Annual Urban Wheel Awards, added that the 2013 Ram 1500 is “rugged and yet smooth enough for a night on the town” and  “really raises the bar on what a pickup truck should be.” 2013 ram 1500

Consumer Guide’s Best Buy Award

Chrysler Group – thanks to Dodge, Ram and Chrysler brands – had five of its vehicles among Consumer Guide® Automotive’s 2013 Best Buys 26 award winners.  The key to Consumer Guide Automotive’s annual Best Buy Awards is the careful evaluation of every aspect of each vehicle as it relates to consumers’ real-world driving experience.

One reason that Consumer Guide awarded the RAM 1500 with the Best Buy title is the new features that significantly update the vehicle.  A new frame and air suspension improve the ride considerably over previous models.  The new 3.6-liter V-6 engine offers better acceleration, while the newly trimmed interior provides a more aesthetically pleasing look to the RAM truck.

Each year, Consumer Guide Automotive editors analyze, compare and evaluate numerous vehicles by driving and extensively testing all major models in 19 vehicle categories. Those models that best fit the needs of the consumer are recognized with a “Best Buy” accolade. A Consumer Guide Automotive Best Buy Award rating signifies that a vehicle is ranked at the top of its class and is strongly endorsed by the editors. 2013 Ram 1500

Detroit Free Press ‘Truck of the Year’

“Chrysler could have gotten away with a mere face-lift for the 2013 Ram 1500 pickup. Instead, it provided a glimpse of the pickup of the future, a truck that combines workhorse capability with fuel efficiency.”

That may sound like some pre-New Year’s horn tooting by the Ram brand, but look again! That direct quote is the opening paragraph of Detroit Free Press auto critic Mark Phelan’s column naming the 2013 Ram 1500 his choice for Truck of the Year.

In the Dec. 27, 2012, edition, the veteran auto writer gives solid marks for the Ram 1500’s forward-thinking innovation and execution on several fronts. As the first non-hybrid pickup with fuel-saving auto-stop technology, combined with a first-in-segment V6 eight-speed transmission, the Ram 1500 achieves an impressive EPA rating of 18 m.p.g. city, 25 highway and 21 combined. That EPA combined rating, Phelan points out, “is 1 m.p.g. better than the highway rating for a V6 Toyota Tundra.”

Phelan also has high praise for the Ram 1500’s “smooth, comfortable ride” and “the structure that’s  a pickup’s backbone” … a “nearly all new frame of “high strength steel” to save weight.

Inside, Phelan says the competition again takes a back seat as buyers experience “Chrysler’s outstanding uConnect system, which combines simple, user-friendly controls with state-of-the-art voice-recognition to create a control system that outshines high-profile competitors.

Motor Trend ‘Truck of the Year’

When it came time to select the best of the best … the most outstanding new pick-up truck for 2013 among a field of tough contenders … the folks at Motor Trend packed up their highly coveted “caliper” award and headed to Auburn Hills to deliver it to the Ram 1500.

The Motor Trend “Truck of the Year” award is one of the industry’s biggest awards – a badge of confidence every pick-up truck manufacturer works hard to wear proudly.

Motor Trend editors, members of the Ram Truck team and thousands of proud employees packed the Chrysler Technical Center’s Tech Plaza on Dec. 6, 2012, to watch Motor Trend Editor-In-Chief Ed Loh present the sought-after for “Truck of the Year” to Chrysler Group Chairman/CEO Sergio Marchionne on behalf of Ram Truck Brand CEO Fred Diaz and the entire Ram Truck team.

Contenders for Motor Trend’s top pick undergo an extensive battery of testing such as ride evaluation, comfort, amenities and, of course, fuel economy. Scoring is based on how the truck measures up against six criteria: design advancement, engineering excellence, efficiency, safety, value and performance of intended function.

In the end, the judges’ decision was unanimous. “We had a small but solid field of contenders …. but in the end, the choice was clear: Ram 1500 not only withstood our rigorous testing, it impressed at every step along the way.” 2013 Ram 1500

North American Truck/Utility of the Year

And, finally, yesterday, it took just minutes to end months of intense speculation and deliver a coveted automotive achievement for the Ram Truck brand.

The 2013 Ram 1500 was named North American Truck/Utility of the Year during a ceremony that kicked off media days at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The highly prized honor is eagerly sought after by automakers since it brings with it some very special bragging rights – all the more “sweeeet” in a truck market that’s growing hotter and more competitive every day.

Winners of the North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year were announced during the opening press conference yesterday at the 2013 North American International Auto Show. Each was chosen by a panel of 49 automotive judges from across Canada and U.S. during a year-long selection process that sized up dozens of competing vehicles.

Fred Diaz, President and CEO – Ram Truck Brand and Chrysler de Mexico – said the announcement “ranks as one of the proudest days in our history.” ram 1500

So, yes, our trophy case is filling up, and our pride is swelling. But nothing makes us prouder than when we get to put our money where our mouth is and actually show you what all of these awards are about.

When you come into Safford Chrysler Jeep Dodge of Fredericksburg and get your first look at the 2013 Ram 1500, you’ll understand why Consumer Guide calls it ‘aesthetically pleasing’ and why Decisive Magazine says it’s ‘definitely stylish.’

When you sit inside, you’ll relish in the beautiful new interior with AOL Auto’s 2012 Technology of the Year award-winning, next-generation Uconnect access system.

And when you go for your first drive, you’ll be amazed, just like they are all the way from Detroit to Texas, that a truck this nice, combining workhorse capability with fuel efficiency, could achieve 25 miles to a gallon like the Ram 1500.
