Last summer my sister and I dragged my boys half-way across the country for a month, in my Chrysler Town & Country, just to re-live a bit of our childhood, exploring our country’s national parks and historical sites: The Grand Canyon, Pikes Peak, Yellowstone National Park, Mount Rushmore, etc, etc…. This was something we used to do as kids every summer, and we wanted to do it again with my kids, so they could experience the ‘thrill’ of it all (not necessarily their word!)

Big Mac Museum

The Big Mac Museum. For people who love McDonald’s, this museum is the mecca of the fast-food chain’s most popular item. The museum, located in North Huntingdon, PA, is also a working McDonald’s restaurant.  You can learn the history of the Big Mac, see artifacts like a Big Mac toaster and a sauce gun, and check out a 14 foot tall Big Mac.

World’s Largest Catsup Bottle

World’s Largest Catsup Bottle. Yes, this is real.  The World’s Largest Catsup bottle is a 170 foot tall water tower built in 1949 for the city of Collinsville, IL.  At the time, the town was home to the G.S. Suppiger catsup bottling company and the water tower was built to show the world how proud they were of their town’s industry.  This roadside attraction was almost demolished in 1995, but was luckily saved and restored and in 2002 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Crayola Crayon Factory

Crayola Factory and Hall of Fame in Easton, PA. I have heard that this is not really an actual factory, but is still a cool tour and museum for families to visit.  A guide shows you how crayons are made and leads you through the entire process of making Crayolas.  There are several activity stations for your children to have hands-on play time.  There is a model magic station, a place to create your own 35mm slides and project them on the wall, and thousands of things for the kids to color.  Don’t forget to finish your visit by checking out the World’s Largest Crayon, which is 15 feet long and 1,500 lbs.

World’s Largest Chest of Drawers

World’s Largest Chest of Drawers. If you happened to pass by this North Carolina attraction in your youth you might not recognize it today.  The original chest of drawers was built in the 1920s by the High Point Chamber of Commerce to honor their status as the “Home Furnishings Capital of the World.” The building was originally 20-feet tall but was renovated in 1996 and became a 38-foot tall block front chest with two socks to symbolize the city’s hosiery industry.

Cadillac Ranch

Cadillac Ranch – Located just to the west of Amarillo on I-40 is this eccentric billionaire’s attempt to baffle the locals.  In 1974 local billionaire Stanley Marsh III and a group of artists called the Ant Farm put 10 Cadillacs into the ground.  It became an instant tourist attraction and a place for people to create their own art work by spray painting the Cadillacs.  If you want to make your mark on the cars make sure you take a picture because it won’t be long before someone spray paints over your mark.

Pez Museum

Museum of Pez  Memorabilia – Did you love Pez candy when you were a kid?  If you were like my sister, you liked the dispensers more than you liked the candy. ( she has a collection that could almost rival the one at this museum! ) If you happen to be travelling near Burlingame, California stop by and check out the Pez Museum.  It is pretty small but it holds over 550 different character dispensers and the world’s largest Pez dispenser.

World’s Largest Ball of Twine

Largest Ball of Twine – In 1950 a man named Francis Johnson started wrapping twine for around four hours a day for about 6 months.  He continued to wrap twine until he died in 1989.  If you are passing by Darwin, MI you can see his twine ball creation that now weighs 17,400 pounds!

Virginia Chrysler Dealer sells Award Winning Brand

Chrysler is pleased to announce that it has been named one of 2012’s Top 10 Car Brands by Total Car Score, a well-respected automotive research and comparison website that ranks every car, truck, van and crossover on the market.

Different than the awards for top-scoring car, which focus exclusively on individual models, the list of top car brands ranks automakers according to the overall strengths of their entire lineup.
